The Olsen Actuators & Drives team attended their second Space Comm Expo, 6th - 7th March 2024. The event had great energy and many fruitful discussions took place.
During the two-day expo, we announced and celebrated securing our first lunar project funded by the UK Space Agency in collaboration with the University of Manchester. The lunar project will develop and fabricate a jumping robot system capable of thrusting upwards, descending, and self-righting that will be lowered into lava tubes under the surface of the Moon which have been earmarked for potential initial future human habitation. Piers Olsen, CEO, Olsen Actuators & Drives, commented: “Space exploration is such an exciting and important field to be involved in, so we’re naturally delighted to be selected by the UK Space Agency to work with the University of Manchester on this project.”
The team was honoured to meet Andrew Griffith, Minister for Science, Research and Innovation, to talk about aerospace and space markets and the benefits of MADE in the UK and to explain our contribution to this dynamic industry and the projects we are involved in. The Minister's visit to Space Comm Expo, included a keynote session where he announced the Space Industrial Plan.
It was also a pleasure to have been visited by Maria Eagle, Shadow Minister for Defence and Procurement. We were able to introduce the minister to the Olsen MADE in the UK business strategy and explain how our products and technology benefit space programs.
