Space Comm Expo 2025

It’s an exciting time to be part of the space sector, which is growing at an unprecedented rate, both in the UK and globally. As a matter of fact, the space industry just so happens to be one of the UK’s fastest growing sectors, with the UK Government having set a goal of capturing 10% of the expected £400 billion global space market by 2030.

With a space-certified product range that supports a diverse variety of space applications, including Geostationary Earth Orbit (GEO) and Non Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) satellites as well as exploration and rover missions, Olsen naturally can’t wait to head to the UK’s largest space industry event, Space Comm Expo in London next month, to showcase its products and find out about the latest innovations and developments in the industry.

Serving the space industry

Olsen provides COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf), customised and fully bespoke motion control solutions for the space sector such as servo-drives with radiation-hardened components for LEO and GEO applications. These space-specific features speed up design, testing and integration, ultimately allowing for faster lead times and reduced development costs.

While we provide COTS components because they meet mission-specific needs with minimal resource investment while ensuring quality, traceability, and cost-effectiveness, we’re also able to customise the components to meet the needs of specific mission requirements. This enables our customers to benefit from the advantages of COTS components, while at the same time ensuring that the solutions are tailored to their specific needs. This approach also prevents customers from having to make their own modifications in-house.

With our production capabilities, and our experience and expertise, we’re able to support our customers at any stage of the development process, from concept, right up to launch. We’re proud to have supported numerous space programs with some of the industry’s biggest names, including NASA’s Plankton, Aerosol, Cloud, ocean Ecosystem (PACE) Satellite, Lockheed Martin Tranche 1, 2Beta, and Tracking Layer, and L3 Harris’ satellite applications. We’ve also developed the belay/winch system with drum, motor and encoder for a UK Space Agency funded winch system that will form part of the lunar rover currently under development by the University of Manchester and funded by the Enabling Technologies Programme.

We’ve recently moved to a new facility that enables us to expand the R&D side of the business for improved capacity for rapid prototyping and development of new product lines and features to support the space industry. This move is a key part of our continued foray into the space sector.
