Today’s most technically advanced hovercraft is benefiting from world-class technology from Olsen Actuators & Drives for improved rudder performance.
Griffon 12000TD fully electric hovercraft with electric rudder actuator, hatches, ramps, valves, and prop pitch saving around 850kg of total craft mass.
The customised 24Vdc stainless actuators can deliver a peak of 18kN and are synchronised using a Beckhoff control system with Elmo amplifiers over EtherCat.
Griffon Hoverwork is a specialist in amphibious vehicles. Its hovercraft have the capability to operate over almost any nearly flat surface on land or water. As a result Griffon Hovercraft are in demand world-wide for passenger, commercial, logistics, defence and humanitarian needs.
Olsen Actuators & Drives developed a new, fully electric rudder system that provides the pilot with valuable real-time functional information and diagnostics, complemented by comprehensive data logging.
The Griffon 12000TD rudder system features high-reliability Exlar stainless-steel GSX40 roller screw linear actuators with servo drive control systems and advanced motion software to optimise rudder control. Olsen also supplied the boarding ramps, clamshell hatch actuators (with manual override feature); thrust prop pitch control and marine-rated power and signal cables.
Not only has Olsen Actuators & Drives provided the latest technology for a world-class rudder system, but the Griffon 12000TD reduces the installation weight by more than 500 kg compared to similar hydraulic solutions, all the difference when your payload could otherwise be additional passengers.
